MAGU (Maia) is a composer, singer and sound healer born in Montevideo, Uruguay, where she obtains a Bachelor in Composition and studies singing, participating in many concerts with distinguished musicians and opera productions.
She later obtains a Master degree in Composition for Audiovisual Media (Master MAAAV) in the Université Lyon 2, France, while studying singing in the Conservatory of Lyon and Centre de la Voix Rhône Alpes.
After completing her studies in composition, Maia obtained a Bachelor in singing from the Maastricht Conservatorium, in the Netherlands. She is actually pursuing a second Master in Music, specializing in classical voice, in the Fontys School of Arts, Tilburg, where she is researching how to combine sound healing and music creation.
As a composer, she has created a lot of music for short films, video games, theatre plays and other type of interdisciplinary projects. Many of her compositions have been awarded prizes in Uruguay, France and Chile.
As a singer, Maia has participated in concerts, interdisciplinary projects and Opera productions in Uruguay, Israel and Europe, where she has been part in projects in the Philarmonie de Paris, Auditorium de Lyon, Teatro Solis or the Grand Théâtre de Gèneve, among other important venues.
Without forgetting her roots, Maia has been the main vocalist of the folklore’s group “Los Franchaleros”, and she is currently involved in the project “Dos esquinas”, performing Tango and folklore music from Uruguay, Argentina and Mexico. She is also passionate about Yddish and Hebrew music, that she performs in concerts.
After a recent life turnover, Maia decided to devote herself to heal and connect with others through her voice and music. She is being trained as a sound healer and composing medicine songs, taking lessons from the Globe Institute in California, US, de Veda Studies institute in Brussesls as well as learning the Terapia del Canto Argentina method with Alberto Kuselman and Marisa Arrieta.
She organises various singing circles and ceremonies in the Netherlands, collaborating with dancers, yoga teachers, shamans and other type of healers. Engaged with humanitarian causes, Maia has collaborated with “Música para el alma”, giving concerts in hospitals, eventide homes, schools and other places. She has also created “ProjectA”, a project that aims to give meaningful messages through music and interdisciplinary performances. Beyond her musicianship, Maia has also a collection of illustration and poetry, and she has recently published her first book “Versos desde el alma”.
